As the long-awaited season 3 drew closer, millions of Fortnite players were wondering what surprises the new game would have in store. Among their speculations, several players were curious about the possibility… of a first-person game mode.

Wednesday 17th June 2020 may have seemed just like any other day for most people. But for fans of Fortnite, this was the day Fortnite Chapter 2: Season 3 was released. After already being postponed twice since 20th February, the new update finally arrived but players were still forced to wait before they could play it due to the huge size of the patch. As they wrote on Twitter:

We’re aware that the PS4 3.4.4 patch size is 10GB, which was unexpected. We’re looking into the issue right now and apologise for the inconvenience.

Does first-person mode work with Fortnite?

Not only is Fornite really good at finding prestigious collaborators in the world of cinema, but it also sets itself apart from the rest due to the fact it has seasons, each of which includes new weapons, characters, skills and maps. And we expect this to also be true for season 3, with a new map and new places to explore. As Epic Games advertised: ‘The island has flooded, there are new areas to explore, Marauders to take on and… sharks to ride? Survive more than just the Storm. Adapt to the new flooded way of life on the island.’

But what if there are more novelties in store for season 3? Like, for example, a new first-person game mode? For the past few days now, one question has been playing on the minds of players. While The Device event was in full swing at the beginning of the week, the game glitched, allowing players to experience a first-person perspective for a while. And this wasn’t the first time that this game mode had been mentioned…

During the event, players were transitioned to a first-person view and could walk around an office during one of the sequences. Although most players were then transitioned back to a third-person camera, some players glitched and their views stayed in first-person. At first, this bug obviously confused players but they were far from unhappy, since the animations were practically perfect and they ended up having a better game experience overall. Because everything looked so good and so natural when the game glitched, players are convinced this will be a future feature of the game…

There is a possibility that this was just a little bug, but players on mobile devices also encountered the same ‘problem’. Although the third-person mode and the importance of character skins played a crucial role in the huge success of Fortnite back in 2017, an FPS view would certainly be a great way to update the game. Stay tuned for updates…
