Here’s How Much ‘Fortnite’ Just Buffed XP Gains For Battle Pass Ranking
Fortnite is doing an annoying new thing where they don’t issue patch notes, which normally list changes to the game every week or so and talk about why those decisions were made. That seems utterly baffling for a game like this, as high profile as this, so I hope it’s not a permanent trend.
One of those changes this week was an alteration to the amount of XP gains players are getting from the game. Namely, it seemed like it was going to be close to physically impossible to hit rank 100 by the end of the season without playing 1000+ games, but now Epic has stepped in and changed some values to make it easier.
Namely, what fans have gathered is that the amount of XP gained from both punch cards and challenges has been changed.
Punch Cards: Used to give 24,000 XP per day, now give 96,000
Challenges: Used to give 140,000 XP per week, now give 540,000 (up from 14,000 to 54,000 per challenge)
What that means in practice is that the 8 million or so XP you need to get by season’s end is a lot easier to obtain. Without the actual XP from matches themselves, you can get 60 tiers from punch cards and ~45 tiers from challenges, which will take you past 100 by themselves. Granted, that’s a punch card a day, but it’s better than the 15-16 matches required per day that the non-buffed XP system required before this change.
What are the most efficient ways to fill punchcards? That may be a question for another day, but many say they like doing Team Rumble to get a few medals, other say it’s easiest in squads to get medals. And others say a top 50 finish with a kill and some chests looted is all you really need to make fast medal progress. In short, just uh, play the game, try to win, mix up your playstyle. You’ll get there.
Keep in mind that these new changes are not for challenges that have already gone live, meaning the last two weeks. Epic couldn’t change those because then it wouldn’t be fair to those who had done them early for a third of the XP.
I really don’t know why Epic made this grind so massive at first. Once people bought the battle pass, they already have their money, and I don’t think they want to look like they’re squeezing people to buy tiers (which are outrageously expensive). Anyway, it’s good these changes landed quickly so too many players didn’t get turned off, but again, I don’t understand why it’s not Epic itself announcing this change in patch notes.
