Did your child stay inside all summer playing Fortnite? Turns out they aren’t alone. According to a recent study, Mississippi is the “Number #1 Fortnite obsessed state” in the nation. Parents, rejoice. Are we flossing right, yet?
Reviews.org recently set out to find the most popular video game in each state but, with 250 million registered accounts, Fortnite was the clear winner across the board and “arguably the most popular video game ever.”
Using Google Trends data, Reviews.org found that every state ranked Fortnite as the most popular game. But Mississippi emerged as the state with “the biggest Fortnite obsession.”The reason? Well, the team at Reviews.org blamed our ridiculously hot summers.
“Mississippi, New Jersey, Illinois, Alabama, and Georgia have the biggest Fortnite obsession,” the review read. “What do these states have in common? They all have really hot summers and it’s better to stay inside? That sounds about right.”
Minecraft the second most popular game nationwide followed by League of Nations, Overwatch and Destiny 2, according to the site. Of the five games, Mississippi had the highest interest in Fortnite with 61 percent.
Alaska, on the other hand, was the least interested state, with 42%.
So if you’re staying inside to beat the heat and your kid is a Fortnite expert, may we suggest dusting off the skills you learned on a Nintendo or a Sega and challenging them to a game? Helpful hint: To avoid looking like a noob, make you sure you throw a Kobe! You’ll be glad you did.
